Overview
Lifeboat Launches is an independent iOS application developed by Matthew Moore. It displays recent RNLI lifeboat launch information, station histories, favourite stations and national launch statistics, and can provide optional push notifications.
This Privacy Policy explains how information is handled when you use the app. It is effective from 14 July 2026 and was last updated on 14 July 2026.
Personal Information
Lifeboat Launches does not require a user account and does not ask for your name, email address, telephone number, postal address, payment details or other personal contact information.
- No user account or personal profile is created.
- No advertising identifiers are used.
- No behavioural advertising or cross-app tracking is used.
- No payment information is processed by the app.
- No photographs or files are uploaded by users.
Information Stored on Your Device
The app stores your favourite lifeboat stations and notification preferences locally on your device using Apple's on-device storage.
It also stores a technical list of station notification topics so that subscriptions can be maintained correctly.
These preferences are not uploaded to an account or user database operated by Matthew Moore Apps. You can change them within the app. Removing the app also removes its locally stored preferences, subject to Apple's device backup and restore behaviour.
Push Notifications
Push notifications are optional. If you enable them, the app uses Apple Push Notification service and Google Firebase Cloud Messaging.
These services process an Apple notification token and a Firebase app installation identifier so that notifications can be delivered to your installation of the app.
Firebase may also process technical information such as device model, language, time zone, operating-system version, app identifier and app version when managing notification-topic subscriptions.
These technical identifiers are used for notification delivery. Matthew Moore Apps does not use them for advertising, profiling or tracking.
The Lifeboat Launches Cloudflare Worker sends notifications to general or station-specific topics and does not maintain a database of individual device tokens or named users.
You can select notifications for all stations, favourite stations only, or turn notifications off. Permission can also be changed at any time in the iPhone Settings app.
Launch Data and Network Requests
The app retrieves public lifeboat launch information from RNLI services, public RNLI station pages and RNLI-related open data hosted through Esri ArcGIS.
It also retrieves national launch statistics from the Lifeboat Launches Cloudflare Worker.
As with normal internet requests, the organisations providing these services may receive technical request information such as an IP address, date and time, app or browser identifier and request details.
Their handling of this information is governed by their own privacy policies.
The Cloudflare Worker stores public RNLI launch records, operational status and aggregate notification results.
It does not store names, email addresses, favourite-station selections or individual device notification tokens. Public launch records are retained for a rolling period of up to 366 days.
Location and Device Permissions
Lifeboat Launches does not request access to your precise or approximate device location, contacts, photographs, camera, microphone, health information or financial information.
Coordinates associated with lifeboat stations are part of the app's public station database and are not obtained from your device location.
Analytics and Tracking
The app does not use advertising, behavioural analytics or cross-app tracking.
It does not sell or rent personal information and does not use information for marketing purposes.
Third-Party Services
The app relies on the following services where required for its operation:
- Apple iOS and Apple Push Notification service.
- Google Firebase Cloud Messaging for app installation registration, topic subscriptions and push-notification delivery.
- Cloudflare for Worker hosting, operational storage and national launch statistics.
- RNLI services and station pages for public launch information.
- Esri ArcGIS for hosting RNLI-related public historical data.
These organisations operate under their own privacy policies:
Retention and Your Choices
Local preferences remain on your device until you change them, reset them or remove the app, subject to Apple's backup and restore behaviour.
Retention of technical identifiers processed by Apple, Firebase and other providers is controlled by those providers and described in their privacy notices.
You can:
- Select all-station, favourite-station-only or no notifications in the app.
- Revoke notification permission through iOS Settings.
- Add or remove favourite stations at any time.
- Remove locally stored preferences by deleting the app.
- Contact Matthew Moore Apps with a privacy question.
Because the app does not maintain accounts or personal profiles, Matthew Moore Apps will generally not hold information that allows a particular user's local preferences to be identified or retrieved.
Children's Privacy
The app provides general public information and is not designed to collect personal information from children.
It does not provide accounts, messaging, social features or advertising.
Security
Network communication uses secure HTTPS connections where supported.
Private server credentials are kept outside the app and are not included in app resources or notification payloads.
No method of electronic processing is completely secure, but reasonable steps are taken in proportion to the limited information handled by the app.
Independent Application
Lifeboat Launches is an independent application and is not an official RNLI application.
References to RNLI information and services do not mean that the RNLI endorses or operates this app.
Changes to this Privacy Policy
This Privacy Policy may be updated if the app's functionality, service providers or legal obligations change.
The latest version will be published on this page with a revised update date.
